Successful Sales Parallels Successful Leadership

I recently read this piece in Inc. and what resonated most with me were the various parallels between being a persuasive leader and being a persuasive salesperson. Tactics and behaviors such as: finding common ground, listening more than talking, authenticity & empathy, utilizing data to back up a claim, requesting feedback, and telling a believable story are all critically important in convincing someone that your solution is what they need.

Speaking from experience, there are many times I have neglected to follow guidelines such as those and it has no doubt cost me deals. But in the spirit of continuous improvement and being real with myself, I always try to stay centered around what makes leaders and salespeople successful.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the subject with me here.
